We are thrilled to partner with Salish artist Aspen Decker for our continuing series featuring indigenous artist's work as a wearable reminder of your time spent in Glacier National Park. Aspen is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and a speaker of her tribal language, Nsélišcn ‘Salish language'. As a passionate advocate and teacher of the Salish language, Aspen has incorporated the Salish word Ltkʷúps, meaning "otter" within the beautifully detailed art. In addition to the word being spelled in both Salish and English, the rider's hands depict the Plains Indian Sign Language gesture for otter.
Aspen drew from her own childhood memories of time spent in Glacier National Park and seeing otters playing in the blue alpine waters.
